A mother gave birth to a child after being artificially inseminated with 28-year old sperm.
Daxor Corporation, a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, made this
announcement today, in a case report documenting two successful pregnancies following insemination with semen cryopreserved for 21 and 28 years. The father stored his sperm in 1972 at the age of 28.
It's sets the record for longest cryopreservation of semen resulting in a live birth.
The case report was published in the October 2005 issue of Fertility and Sterility.
