Takes One To Kill One

Crossing GuardEstelle Reynolds, a crossing guard directing traffic in front of a high school was run over in a crosswalk by a car driven by Marvin Hodgdon.   Hodgdon was presumably rushing to get to his job ---- as a crossing guard at a nearby school.   Hodgdon told police he didn't see her.   Police said she wearing high-visibility safety gear.

I wonder if Mr. Hodgdon will feel safe wearing his "high-visibility safety gear" and holding up his high-visibility stop sign the next time a car driven by a stressed out commuter on the way to his or her job comes racing towards him.   Maybe he'll be careful and stay out of the way of cars approaching too fast.   Then as the car passes his crosswalk, he'll probably curse under his breath or yell at the driver to slow down!

  • i'm glad you find humor in the brutal death of my grandmother.

i hope someday you feel the pain and misery of losing a loved one in a horrible way, and people make a joke out of it.

  • you may be interested to know that mr. hodgdon's lawyer is fighting the charges of "careless driving" and the possibility of mr. hodgdon having to retake a driving test, so that mr. hodgdon will only have to pay a parking fine.

  • This was never intended to be funny or a joke.   The name of the site is weird news - news that is outside the ordinary.   This qualifies first as news - it was reported in several news media outlets.   Is is also outside the ordinary because of the odd twist.   It is weird news regardless of the pain caused to family or friends by the event.

I apologize only to those who as a friend or relative of the victim or alleged careless driver found it offensive.   I do not apologize for publishing the story nor for my sarcasm with respect to the apparent lack of regard for fellow human beings by the driver.

The story was news and the sarcasm was justified.
